Hey, I'm Sam Farrell.
I'm a 22 year old CS graduate from the University of Utah. I'm enthusiastic about algorithms, natural language processing, and computer vision. I am actively learning more about web development on the side as well. I love building applications and furthering my knowledge by picking up new technologies and libraries.
Much of my work to date has been in Python; whether through my coursework, my internship at the Air Force Research Lab, or personal projects.

Python, C#, React --- Aug 2023 - April 2024

Worked as one of 4 students on a DIY home security system for a year-long senior capstone project.
Used OpenCV and YOLOv8 for motion detection and object recognition.
Used feature embeddings to create a dynamic face classification system with PyTorch.
Wrote a setup wizard in Python using PyQt.

VSR Sumo Sim

Python, SUMO, TraCI, NumPy, BeautifulSoup --- September 2023 - present

Developed a Python submodule to procedurally generate road networks with parking lots, roadside parking, multiple lanes, and traffic lights.
Interfaced with running TraCI road network simulations and used TraCI calls to maintain simulation conditions.
Used multithreading to run network generation on a seperate thread than the main simulation to improve performance.
Used BeautifulSoup for parsing, editing, and sanitization of several XML files that represent generated SUMO networks.

AirSim Vehicle Tracker

Python, NumPy, airsim, YOLOv8 --- July 2023 - September 2023

Developed a Python submodule to extract simulated camera footage from a running AirSim simulation.
Used a trained YOLOv8 model to identify vehicles in the footage and outline them with bounding boxes. These bounding boxes were then projected from camera coordinates to real coordinates in the simulation and aggregated to identify a complete representation of all the vehicles in view of any camera.
Wrote a demo script that displays camera views in a collage and allows for movement of camera position and FOV changes.

Django Blog

Python, Django, HTML --- April 2024 - present

Learning Management System

C#, Linq, SQL --- Jan 2022 - May 2022

Created a LMS system in C# as part of my Database Systems course.
Used an entity-relationship diagram to design the tables required for the database.
Used Linq to query these tables to display information to users such as classes, assignments, and grades.
